## Short answer

AI assistants are a new search channel. Here is how to make your product easy for them to read, trust and recommend.

More buyers now ask an AI assistant "what is the best tool for…" before they search. Assistants recommend products they can read and trust. You cannot pay to be recommended, but you can make your site clear and easy for AI to understand.

This guide is for founders and marketers who want their product to show up when buyers ask an AI assistant for advice. None of the steps needs special tools: most are small changes to files and pages you already have.

## 1. Let AI crawlers in
Check your robots.txt. If it blocks GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended, assistants cannot read your site. Allow them on your public pages and keep private areas (accounts, admin) blocked.

## 2. Publish an llms.txt
An [llms.txt](https://llmstxt.org) file is a short Markdown summary of your product with links to key pages. It gives language models a clean map of your site. 1ai.tools publishes one at [/llms.txt](https://www.1ai.tools/llms.txt) as an example, plus a full version with every tool.

## 3. Add structured data
Use schema.org JSON-LD: **Organization**, **WebSite**, **SoftwareApplication** (with pricing) and **FAQPage**. Structured data states facts that crawlers do not have to guess, such as your price model, category and the questions you answer.

## 4. Write pages that answer real questions
- One clear H1 that says what the product is.
- A meta description of 70–170 characters.
- A short, direct answer near the top of each important page; assistants quote clear sentences.
- Use-case pages: "for agencies", "for sales teams", each with an example.
- Pricing and comparison pages, written honestly, including when a competitor is a better fit.

## 5. Be mentioned on trusted pages
Assistants learn from the wider web. Reviewed directory listings, reviews and articles that describe your product accurately all help. A listing on 1ai.tools comes with its own JSON-LD, a [Markdown page](https://www.1ai.tools/md/chatgpt) and an entry in our llms.txt. Our blog lists, like [the best AI coding assistants](https://www.1ai.tools/blog/best-ai-coding-assistants), link to the tools they include.

## 6. Keep facts consistent and fresh
Use the same product name, tagline and pricing everywhere: your site, directories and social profiles. Conflicting facts make assistants less confident. Update pages when features or prices change, and show the date. A visible "last updated" line tells both readers and crawlers that the facts are current.

## Check your score
Run your site through our free [AI visibility checker](https://www.1ai.tools/tools/ai-visibility-checker). It checks 13 things, from llms.txt and JSON-LD to AI crawler access, and tells you what to fix. Then [list your tool](https://www.1ai.tools/#submit) so it has one more trusted, machine-readable page.

## FAQ

### Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?

No. Assistants recommend what they can read and trust. Make your site clear, crawlable and accurately described across the web.

### What is llms.txt?

A Markdown file at /llms.txt that summarises your product and links to key pages, so language models can understand your site.

### How do I know if AI can read my site?

Use the free 1ai.tools AI visibility checker. It checks robots.txt, llms.txt, JSON-LD, meta tags and more.

### How long until AI assistants notice changes?

It varies. Crawlers revisit sites on their own schedule, and assistants update at different times. Make the changes once, keep them consistent, and check again after a few weeks.

### Does an llms.txt file replace a sitemap?

No. Keep your XML sitemap for search engines. The llms.txt file is an extra, short map written for language models.
